Biography

CONTEMPORARY ARTIST, MASTER CALLIGRAPHER AND MUSICIAN

Bahman Panahi was born in Iran in 1967. The youngest son of a large artistic and cultured family, he came into contact with music, painting, theater and calligraphy through the work of his brothers.

He chose music and calligraphy considering that music represents Persian history, culture and civilization, while calligraphy exemplifies Iranian creativity and taste. His work revolves around the convergences between these two arts.

Holder of the certificate of mastery of the « Institute of calligraphers of Iran » with great masters of calligraphy: « Gholâmhossein Amirkhany, Foradi and Kaboli » he began to teach in various cultural, artistic and academic centers from an early age.

At the same time, he learned to play « Tar » and « Setar » and deepened his musical knowledge with great masters of Persian classical music such as Houshang Zarif, Mohamad Reza Lotfi, Ataolah Zahed Shirazi.

Bahman Panahi is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran and continued his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-arts, in Valanciennes then at the Sorbonne in France towards a doctorate. in visual arts.

Since 1990, he has been teaching and giving lectures and concerts, leading workshops and exhibitions on five continents. In addition, he has been invited as a visiting professor and distinguished artist at renowned institutions such as Harvard University and Northeastern University in Boston, Science Po. in Paris and other institutions.

Renowned institutions – among others the universities of Harvard or Northeastern, in Boston, Science-Po Paris – regularly invite him as a professor and distinguished artist to give lectures.

Bahman Panahi has lived in Paris since 2002 and is actively engaged in his artistic work on a global scale.

Calligraphy is not a practice of the past.
In the West, it is more associated with books. In Iran, it is more spectacular, often associated with architecture.
By associating calligraphy and music, we can draw a parallel between black and white, silence and sound.
